Ten runners and riders appeared for the delayed touring car night, with the return of Gareth after a year of off-roading, Jim finding the opportunity to run an old SEAT 1000 too tempting to resist and Simon and Shaun from the BTCC press office in attendance.
Six classes were planned but the Australian V8 Supercars were a non-runner thanks to a too-thick guide on the 888 Racing Ford Falcon and extreme handling deficiencies on the Toll HDT Commodore. No matter – a very full race card was maintained thanks to the many and varied Touring Car Masters pre-1985 cars, the Ford Sierra RS500s, the Supertouring 1990s BTCC cars and the Modern DTM and Modern BTCC classes.
Graham triumphed once again although it wasn’t as easy as it looked and owed a great deal to his rock solid ability to keep scoring strongly when not on the outright pace. After rocketing into an early points lead, Jim and Ben did their best to haul back the deficit and the three podium finishers were evenly matched all night.
Another battle for fourth place saw Dale capitalise on a maximum 16 points in the DTM class to make it home in front of Nick, Simon and Gareth. Chris put in some race winning drives, while bth Simon and Shaun were in the thick of the action, taking advantage of the occasional bit of over-zealous door banging by the regulars to very good effect. Every point counted for a great deal and there was no respite all evening.
